Welcome to the DocuGONZO Film Festival
The DocuGONZO SHORT Film Festival is a 1st annual celebration of independent journalism and documentary film making. We are reinventing what “short film” means by separating longish form stories and breaking them into bite-sized smaller segments made for social media platform consumption. We are dedicated to showcasing diverse perspectives, untold stories, and innovative filmmaking techniques in the realm of short documentaries.
This festival isn't just about screening short films; it's about breaking barriers for filmmakers and journalists who've hit a dead end, providing them unparalleled exposure to elevate their craft and bring their stories to light. Whether you or your project has been overlooked by mainstream media or if you’re seeking a new platform to amplify your story, DocuGONZO is your stage.
Unlike traditional festivals dominated by uppity critics, DocuGONZO is empowering its audience to be the judge, offering a direct and fresh approach to film and story selection.
ABOUT THE FILM FESTIVAL
The process is straightforward: filmmakers submit a 300 word or less synopses of their film, a 2-5 minute sizzle reel of the film, and the DocuGONZO team curates the top ten entries. These 10 finalists will then have their synopses and sizzles published and streamed on the DocuGONZO platform where they will then be voted on by the audience. The top three vote getters will have their entire projects then showcased in DocuGONZO short film style, broken up into pieces and presented over several weeks where the audience will again vote for a final winner.

The ideal entry submission should fit the taste and tone of DocuGONZO’s style of storytelling. See our COCKE COUNTY short documentary as the best model for what we’re looking for. We actually entered it in the 1st annual DocuGONZO SHORT Film Festival and it was disqualified since we made it :-)
